New Covenant Church was founded out of a love for our neighbors in South Boston. Paul Lenaghan and his wife Ellen were leading a bible study in their home when they became aware there was no Bible believing church meeting in South Boston. God led them to begin holding Sunday worship services. Paul and Ellen answered God’s call to begin a new work, and New Covenant Church was born.
In the meantime, God was moving Brance Gillihan and his wife Lauren from Virginia to South Boston, with a burden to live for Christ in the neighborhood, a vision to see many in this town belong to God [1 Corinthians 18:10], and a longing for the name of Jesus to be renowned [Colossians 1:18]. They settled in Southie in the summer of 2011 and began working to spread the gospel with the hopes of seeing a new church planted.
God eventually brought these two couples together with a conviction that they were better equipped to serve him together than apart [Ecclesiastes 4:9-10]. The two couples joined as a leadership team for New Covenant Church in 2013.
At present, our gatherings are small but enthusiastic, joyful occasions. We worship through prayer, song, and preaching of the bible. We practice consecutive exposition, which means we primarily preach straight through books of the bible.
Our commitment is to boldly proclaim Christ from the scriptures [Ephesians 6:19] and to worship him in spirit and in truth [John 4:24].
“I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the LORD!”” (Psalms 122:1 ESV)
